Choices
the sixth step of a heroes journey is the "road of trials". which basically means when you are faced with many different options of ways to do things and you must chose a way. I find myself having to chose by being faced with two choices, i could either take the easy road out and give up or actually take the challenging but more rewarding road instead? it seems like the choice would be obvious, i mean who wouldn't want to take the road with more rewarding opportunities, but it seems like if you just chose the easy way it would be just as rewarding than working so very hard on something and not even being sure that the result or outcome of it will be what you want it to be. You have to look at the choices you make now and how it will affect you in the long run. I mean i could just give up on being my best and getting all A's and B's and just go with a C average because its easy now, but if you look into the future you'll see that, that choice would be bad because i would probably become an unmotivated person and think that it's ok to not try my hardest. There is a quote i found by Eleanor Roosevelt and i feel really expresses what I'm trying to say. "I am how I am today, by the choices i made yesterday." so i must chose my choices wisely now because it will make up for the person i will be in the future...

Symbolism
For a hero to be successful on their journey they need to know how to interpret symbols. to interpret symbols, you must look at the literal meaning of an object and then try to think of another possible meaning it might have or what else it might represent. for example in the book "Forbidden city" there is a statue called "lady liberty" and she is facing the picture of the dictator you could look at it as if it was just a statue near a picture but, it was more than that, it symbolised the people and students standing up to the government for what they believed was right and for their freedom. another example is my school mascot. we are the penguins and at first i thought we just were the penguins because we like penguin or something but there is a reason for use being penguins. the reson is penguins are birds but very unique and new tech is a high school but a different kind of high school. also penguins stick together like a family and works together, just like the students and staff do at new tech.

refusing the call
I feel that the character, alex is not sure and nervous about leaving canada and going to japan. so he is a the step "refusing the call". It says when the hero is at this part of the journey he/she will normally refuse it because of fear, sense of duty , insecurity, etc. it mentions in the book that he is a very responsible boy and he does not want to leave because he might not be able to catch up and therfoth not be allowed to graduate. i feel he is refusing the call because of a sense of duty. how i relate to him is that i guess in a way i wanted to refuse the call like him when i had to leave middle school and enter high school. i had the same reason as him " sense of duty" but that wasn't holding me back it was what was pushing me forward towards high school. i felt that i had to go to highschool even though i was scared because i wanted to reach my goals in life and be successful and those things come to you if you enter high school. i chose this picture because at first i didn't want to go an the "call of adventure" and then i wants sure but finally i was ready.

The Cave You Fear To Enter Holds The Treasure You Seek
The whole idea of starting something new and being at the bottom is scary, so i fell in this case, "the cave" is starting high school. Yes i fear to enter the cave, but who wouldn't, i mean there is just so many obstacles that you will have to face, so many decisions you'll have to make, so MANY different paths you could take. Its over overwhelming, and confusing. How will you know wrong from right when you are face with all the new things the "cave" will bring you? I know it will be hard but i also knew that i had to enter it all along. Its the final step before entering the world which is a whole nother cave itself. So my time has come to face my fears and leave behind the middle school "cave" along with most of its treasures and enter a much bigger and challenging cave. I can not be sure that i'll be 100% happy with the way i chose to make it through, but all i know is i must, because if i don't....well, there is no "don't" i will make it through and reach my goals, i'll try my hardest to achieve them in the best and easiest way possible and thats how i'll get my treasure that i seek.
Where i am on my hero's journey
I think i'm at the "called to the adventure" step of my (heroes) journey. I think this because i have just started a new school, it's a new experience and i do not know if i am going to fail or be successful, i'm very apprehensive about it, and wondering if i can face all the obstacles that will be and are coming my way.I picked a pictures that i thought represented my step i was at very well. It was a picture of a girl how looks like she's about to go on a run or marathon and i thought this was a great picture for "called to the adventure" because she is about to in bark on this hard adventure that could be filled with difficult obstacles and she is trying to find out how she will concur them.
